It is now often that we hear the phrase "domestic violence". Others call is as domestic abuse of family violence. Violence is something that happens in various aspects of our society. It simply makes use of other terms depending on where it takes place. Maybe you have seen violence on the news regarding terrorist attacks and when there are political clashes that got out of hand. You shouldn't be surprised to see violence spring in such scenarios. However, it is a different story when the violence occurs within the confines of what is supposed to be an intimate relationship.

The failure of most marriages can be blamed on a lot of misunderstandings where physical aggression is also involved. Many times, wives become battered at the hands of their husbands, and vice versa. It is also common to see family violence and battering nowadays. People who are unaware of their legal rights will surely suffer more than those who are. The rate of violence between intimate partners is also increasing. Physical abuse even starts during the dating stage. Tiny misunderstandings and communication problems can be the root of bigger problems. Domestic violence has a lot of types, such as physical abuse and emotional abuse.

Among the many acts classified as physical abuse are kicking, hitting, slapping, or biting the partner. It is also considered as physical abuse or domestic violence if an item is flung at a partner with the full intention of inflicting pain. Punishment by the law will depend on the severity of the abuse.

Sexual abuse is another major section. If a person is caught in sexual abuse, he will be severely punished. Emotional abuse is another section of domestic violence. When one partner controls the other partner, in terms of his feelings or ambition or when one dominates the other to a major extent, this might lead to severe problems. The emotional abuse is also referred to as the mental abuse or physiological abuse are subjected to physical trauma like depression or anxiety or when specific actions of your partner lead to major health or mental issues, these can be considered as psychological or emotional abuse.

Post-traumatic stress also falls under this category. Even child abuse or bullying is classified as emotional abuse. This could happen at home or even at work. A person suffering some sort of mental problems or even alcohol addiction could result to physical abuse. Domestic violence will be even more severe if one of the partners has such issues.

States and countries definition or domestic violence and its various types generally vary. The same is true with the documentation of domestic violence reports that are kept. Physical abuse also applies if the partner in a close relationship is kidnapped. Verbal abuse and economic abuse also merit punishment. These abuses will always cause adverse effects on both partners in the relationship.
